Oh I just can't believe we have a ONE-year old at our house! Julia has gotten SO BIG (see above picture for demonstration.) She really is such a big girl in so many ways! Before I get into that, though, let me tell you about her big birthday weekend.
She spent her birthday morning opening up presents and listening to us sing "Happy Birthday" a bunch of times. I wish we would have taped her hearing it for the first time. She just looked at us with this huge smile on her face and when we got to the "to Julia" part, she pointed to herself (like "me?"). It was so cute that I decided we needed to sing it all day long. She never seemed to get sick of it.
After a breakfast of blueberry pancakes, she spent 3 hours playing hard at the park with friends, took a great big afternoon nap and then spent the evening with her two favorite people. Perfect day.
Then on Saturday we had her first birthday party. This was so fun! Even though we were hoping for a sunny day and got severe thunderstorms, we made the best of it and kids were still able to play a little in the front yard. I think Julia loved seeing so many of her friends and family in her house.
We owe a huge Thank You to our family who helped us pull this thing off. We couldn't have done it without all the cleaning, babysitting and food you supplied.
Then Sunday we had a little party to celebrate Ellen and Julia's birthdays at their Nana's house--more presents and more cake! She LOVED her Aunt Sue's icing.
I think she knows it's a bench.
So this family has spent the last few days recovering from a ton of fun and sugar and activities. Especially me! It has been really nice to take it easy and actually have nothing to do. Julia and my new favorite thing to do is sit on the porch and talk. Like this:
I'm hoping she has enough new toys to make this work for most of the summer.
We had her one-year checkup on Tuesday and she's doing great! She is weighing in at 17 lbs 13 oz and 27 1/2 inches tall. Still no teeth (turns out I was wrong about this one--long, slightly embarassing story), but the doctor assured us that everything's fine, she's just probably going to get a lot all at once, bless her heart.
As far as everything else goes, she is talking more, climbing more, into A LOT more and just acting like a one-year-old, I guess. Here is one last video of our big girl.

Happy Birthday Julia!!! I can't believe she's a year! She's gotten so big. I love watching her moving around and "looking" for Jack. If she does get all her teeth in at once, shoo-ee, I'll be praying for her...and you! =)
So many fun things for that sweet little 1 year old. It's pretty cute how she can say she is one. The party turned out great inside! You did a good job of making your house party-ish. The cake was so yummy too. I'm so proud of that little gal and I bet she will take her time with those teeth God doesn't put us through more than we can handle right:)
Oh she is so big!! She's talking so so well, I just can't believe it! I can't wait to see her in action. And that is the sweetest birthday cake ever, that cake decorating class is finally paying off. Wish I could have been there to watch her beam while being sung too, she is such a happy baby.
what a great birthday week she had. she is the happiest girl and you can tell she is so loved. great job in the first year, it seem to have gone on without a hitch.
i wish i had been able to make to the party but i'm so glad dan and will got to come celebrate.
i still have her gift in my car, so that's one more toy for the summer...but don't worry it won't take up much room and it can stay outside!
she seems to have loved the birthday cake, that's always my favorite part.
great job on that cake too, it is so cute.
It really is hard to believe that Julia is one year old already. What a great birthday weekend she had with all her family and friends. I absolutely love the videos - I just can't get over how much she is talking and how expressive she is. Looking for Jack is about the cutest thing, putting her hands up like that. Thanks for sharing the pics and videos. I sure hope I get to see her in person the next time you are in town. Hugs to Julia!!
I have to say that Julia is quite smart. You have done a good job of teaching her Niki and it is SO sweet to see how she communicates with you now.
Happy Birthday sweet Julia! I'm so bummed we missed the party.. but it looked like loads of fun! I can't believe she is one already.. man time sure does fly! That cake was really cute too! = )
Niki I can not believe that you made that cake. I am so impressed. For real that is incredible. I have such talented sisters. I wish I could have been there so bad but I can not wait to see you both soon!!!
p.s. I love the pink polka dotted Romper!!!!
Niki and Nick, you really know how to host a party, and Julia was the star of the show. She was the perfect Birthday Girl and a gracious host. The cake was delicious. Love you guys,
